Six Minute Challenge Berlin 17.4.2019

Czech and Slovak artists, professionals, students, and scholars are challenged to introduce the subject of their project, research or studies in a short presentation limited to six minutes. In English. Six Minute Challenge series was conceived in 2015 by Zuzana Halsey for Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences /Společnost pro vědy a umění (SVU) in New York. Now, the Six Minte Challenge is coming to Berlin organized by Czexperts and Tschechisches Zentrum Berlin.


Hana Formánková

Hana Formánková, born in Ostrava, is research associate at Chair Political System of Germany and Politics in Europe at the University of Leipzig and member of the Research Academy Leipzig. Before starting working at the Leipzig Institute of Political Science, she served from 2011 till 2017 in the Czech Foreign Service. From 2005 till 2011 she studied a Master´s Degree program in International Relations at the Masaryk University in Brno with studies abroad in Magdeburg and Ekaterinburg. Since 2013 she has been working on her dissertation project on policy making in transnational spaces. In 2018, the Springer-Verlag published a volume „The Political System of Czechia“ co-edited by Hana Formánková. It shows how Czechia, once the poster child of rapid change from socialism to democracy, has become more and more criticized for the state of democracy and offers explanations for this narrative change.

Jan Málek

Jan Málek is a current Ph.D. student at the DIW Berlin and KU Leuven. His research interests relate primarily to the empirical industrial organisation,  competition policy and innovation economics. He completed his Bachelor in Economics at the Charles University in Prague and obtained his Masters in Economics specializing in Markets and Regulation at the University of Amsterdam. Apart from pursuing the PhD, Jan has worked as a competition economist in a German consultancy company and in a Czech law firm.  Prior to joining DIW, he worked as an analyst in several financial institutions, including a major Czech bank.

Interests and hobbies: In his free time, you can find Jan either at a gym or reading and enjoying a nice cup of coffee in one of the Berlin cafes.
